Ex-senator Omanga, Bishop Wanjiru land new State jobs

Earlier, Omanga and Wanjiru had been appointed as Chief Administrative Secretaries in the Ministries of Interior and Cooperatives, but these positions were later declared invalid by the court.
President William Ruto has named former Starehe MP, Margaret Wanjiru, as the head of the Nairobi Rivers Commission. He also appointed former nominated senator, Millicent Omanga, as a member of the commission.
The President made these new appointments in a Gazette Notice dated October 25, 2024.

Additionally, the commission was moved from the Office of the President to the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development.
Earlier, Omanga and Wanjiru had been appointed as Chief Administrative Secretaries in the Ministries of Interior and Cooperatives, but these positions were later declared invalid by the court.
With these changes, Pamela Olet, who had been the chairperson of the commission, has been replaced by Bishop Wanjiru.
Omanga takes over a position previously held by former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, whose appointment was contested in court.
President Ruto initially launched the Nairobi Rivers Commission in February 2023.
The commission was part of Ruto's grand plan to clean up Nairobi city and restore it to its former glory.
He had earlier explained that his dream is to sort out the filth in the capital city and make Nairobi a place where people can enjoy it and enterprises can grow by getting rid of sewage and all other effluents that are going into the city's rivers.
"If you look at our rivers in Nairobi, it is a sad story and I want to assure the residents of Nairobi that we will make the Nairobi River what it should be," Ruto said.
